Not the best of games as a spectacle but a win is a win, beating Bank Quay Bulls and Wigan St Cuthberts in a pre season tournament was no mean feat in their first hit outs of the campaign which sees the Warriors into their league fixtures next week when they travel to Rochdale Mayfield for the first game in the short winter NCL Competition.

Rochdale Mayfield v Hunslet Warriors
National Conference League.
Hunslet Warriors travelled to Rochdale for the first of their fixtures in the “Interim Season” as the transition to summer rugby begins.
On six minutes, Warriors centre and man of the match Mark Cunningham scored the first of his four tries when put through by captain Caldon Bravo.
Gary McClelland was on target with the conversion. The away defence held firm as Mayfield tried to respond, with Warriors’ prop Liam Gale and winger Barry Featherstone making their presence felt.
However they couldn’t prevent Mayfield’s 2010/11 man of steel, hooker Todd O’Brien, crossing after 11 minutes with Aidy Gleeson converting to level the score.
A lofted ball from Warrior’s scrum half Micky Lyons almost led to a further Warriors score before Cunningham was again put through and the home side could only watch as he swept past them to cross the whitewash.
Mayfield’s Aussie stand off, the ex Leeds and Castleford pro Damien Gibson was a constant threat and on 18 minutes a smart pass to O’Brien saw him give his side the lead as Gleeson again converted.
Warriors responded with excellent team work as a move involving hooker Richard Wheelhouse and centre Tony Swift saw a converted try for Omar Medhi. This was followed by Cunningham’s hat trick as he once again outpaced the Mayfield defence, McClelland stepping up to convert.
On the stroke of half time, Mayfield chose to take two points following a penalty.
Half Time: Rochdale Mayfield 14 - Hunslet Warriors 22
Mayfield started the second half strongly as prominent winger Kristian Duffy was denied a try on two separate occasions. The first a last gasp tackle from McClelland and then solid defence work from Joel Henry saw him put into touch only inches from the whitewash.
On 52 minutes Cunningham shrugged off an attempted tackle, scooped up the ball and burst over for his fourth try. This was followed by a successful penalty kick from McClelland. New faces Luke Rayner, Joel Henry and Louis Miller got in on the act with some impressive rugby and showed why they had broken into the Warriors first team.
The crowd then witnessed the move of the match as Bravo burst through the home defence to race 50 yards before feeding Swift who, as he was tackled, managed an overhead pass which was collected by the alert McClelland who crossed under the post.
Warriors then went close following a 40/20 kick from Wheelhouse but it was the home side who got a consolation try through winger Paul Lane.
Under the prompting and encouragement of Az Pratt, Warriors completed the scoring when constant pressure from Medhi paid off as he claimed his second try, again converted by McClelland.

Keighley Cougars U18’s v Hunslet Warriors U18’s
Gillette Conference Youth League.
This top of the table fixture, which could prove to be the end of season league leadership decider, was eagerly awaited by both sets of supporters. Warrior’s coach Simon Peach had called his team in for extra preparatory training prior to the game, and he was delighted with the way his players put into practice a number of rehearsed moves.
From the start, and playing up the slope, Warriors showed great determination in their approach but it wasn’t until the 16th minute that they recorded their first score. Powerful centre Elliot Miller found full back Danny Cahill who outpaced the home defence before feeding stand- off Jake Reed to touch down. James Woods added the points.
Some five minutes later, Cahill again ran 50 metres before off loading to centre Kyle Boardman to score and put the visitors ahead by ten points.
On 30 minutes, following a penalty for holding down, Cougars replied through prop Matt Ross with scrum half Ben Stead converting.
For a while, Warriors had to demonstrate sound defence with Nathan Sheard, Dave Norton and Connor Nolan to the fore. It was Cahill once again who made the break to feed Joe Thrush for a try just before the break, Woods converting.
Half Time: Keighley Cougars U18’s 6 – Hunslet Warriors U18’s 16
Immediately after the break captain and hooker Matty Scott put through centre Elliot Miller for the first of his brace, the second following eight minutes later.
Cougars tried desperately to get back into the game with full back Joe Palmer sound in defence and with loose forward Aaron Nicholson threatening the Warriors line. However it was Warriors centre Kyle Boardman who seized upon a loose ball to run the length of the pitch to touch down for his second try of the game. Woods again added the extras.
Two late consolation tries served to flatter the Cougars as Nicholson and Palmer both crossed with winger George Nixon converting each.
Final Score: Keighley Cougars U18’s 18 – Hunslet Warriors U18’s 30
