Dudley Hill – Away

BRADFORD DUDLEY HILL U18s  V  HUNSLET WARRIORS U18s

Gillette Conference Youth League.

Top of the table Bradford Dudley Hill were looking to extend their unbeaten record against the visitors, but it took Hunslet Warriors just 3 minutes for their first score. Forward Connor Nolan ran 50metres before offloading to hooker captain Matthew Scott to cross.

Five minutes later a move involving both wingers Connor Sockett and Danny Cahill once again freed Connor Nolan to feed centre Kyle Boardman for the second score. Full back Jake Corney converted.

Trying to force their way back into the game standoff Ryan Proctor was involved in all the Dudley Hill moves while strong running from forward Ryan Jackson took the game to the Warriors.

It was Warriors however who added to their score after 34 minutes when Corney outpaced the home defence in a 60 metre run to cross the line and add the extras.

After the break Dudley Hill showed fresh determination but Warriors withheld the pressure with strong defence especially on the part of loose forward Nathan Sheard and forward James Woods.

On 55 minutes Warriors fullback and man of the match Jake Corney collected a Dudley Hill kick through to run the length of the pitch for his second touchdown.

15 minutes later Dudley Hill centre Aiden Batty was rewarded for his hard work with a try for the home side but it was Warriors who then added to their score with four points from standoff Jake Reed before hooker Matthew Scott went over for his second try of the game following an exciting angled 50 metre run with Jake Corney adding the points.

The win took Warriors to top of the table in advance of their home game next Sunday 10th April against unbeaten Holderness Vikings.

HUNSLET WARRIORS U18s   v   HOLDERNESS VIKINGS U18s

Gillette Conference Youth League.

This top of the table clash saw visitors Holderness Vikings take the lead after just 3 minutes through forward Cameron Inglis. Converted by stand-off Lewis Suddaby. It wasn`t until 25 minutes that Warriors hit back when a powerful run from centre David Norton saw him touch down in the corner.

For the Vikings loose forward Don Robinson was outstanding and the creator of a number of promising moves. On 28 minutes one of these led to centre James Chester increasing Vikings lead and 3 minutes later this was extended further as forward Sam Archibald crossed.

Warriors were on the back foot and it was only stern defence from prop Stuart Zubrycki and hooker Matty Scott along with two try saving tackles from winger Danny Cahill which prevented the visitors going in at half time with an even greater lead.

Half Time:   Hunslet Warriors U18s    4   -   Holderness Vikings U18s    14

It was a different story in the second half after Warriors received a roasting from coach Simon Peach and supporters were rewarded with the entertaining and fast flowing rugby they have come to expect of this classy young outfit.

Prolific scorer Jake Corney crossed and converted after just five minutes to start the comeback. Winger Connor Sockett and stand-off Jake Reed were both prominent as scrum half Jacob Wykman went over to level the scores.

Corney scored and converted again on 52 minutes and replacement winger Sam Fletcher was unlucky not to get on the score sheet as the ball was knocked from his hands as he attempted to touch down.

Captain and man of the match Matty Scott scored on 60 minutes, Corney again adding the points. 8 minutes later Corney intercepted to run the length of the pitch and get his hat trick, once again he added the extras.

Scoring was completed when forward James Woods forced his way over the line to round off what earlier had appeared an unlikely victory.

Final Score 8 – 20
Summer Rugby has arrived and on an energy sapping day the heat would
obviously play a massive part in todays game, the sprinklers were out
on the pitch right up to the kick off  trying to get some moisture
into the bone hard pitch. Defenses dominated in th e early stages with
Featherston playing much better than their lowly position in the
league might suggest, in fact they were probably much the better in
the early stages which was reflected by a tight half time scoreline.
However after 20 minutes from good approach play the Warriors made
their way up the pitch resulting in Elliot Morgan hitting the line at
pace to force his way over, debutant goal kicker  Danny Cahill
standing in for the missing Jake Corney slotted the ball between the
posts 0 – 6. The score remained the same until half time.

It didn’t take long for the Warriors to post another score on 38
minutes following a rampage from impressive prop  Brad Gill who fed
the supporting scrum half and man of the match Joe Thrush who was back
after missing the last game through injury, conversion missed 0 – 10.
Looking like the team they were from last week the fitness seemed to
be taking its toll with Featherston finding it it getting very hard
down the middle and with Brad Gill now rampant loose forward Nathan
Sheard was rewarded with a try on 45 minutes to finish off the move 0
- 14, conversion missed. Straight from the restart the Lions struck
back with an intercept from the home scrum half who was too quick to
be caught, conversion missed  4 – 14. Steadying the ship on 57 minutes
with Joe Thrush now dominating the play he collected his second try
for the day with a dancing run over the line, Danny Cahill converted 4
- 20. Trying to play fancy football in these conditions proved to be
dangerous as the never say die Lions pounced on another error to force
a goal line drop out from which the Lions prop eventually bundled his
way over the line, conversion missed 8 – 20. The away team were a
shadow of themselves from the team that beat teams from Dudley hill
the other week and The Holderness Vikings last weekend.
Lots to work on for the coaching team over the next 2 weeks as they
prepare for the long trip down to Hemel Hempstead. Good news today is
that results went the Warriors way who now see themselves sat at the
top of the league.
